We are seeking an Early Childhood Assistant for our Early Learning Center:
Department Job Function:
The early childhood department provides services for children and families prenatal-5 years. The childcare rooms provide holistic services for toddler aged children.
Job Function:
The Early Childhood Assistant supports the Teacher in all aspects of the program and ensures that all children are actively supervised and engaged while in the classroom and on site. The Early Childhood assistant is responsible for helping plan developmentally appropriate and responsive activities, partnering with families, and following all funder and accreditation guidelines including Early Head Start Learning Outcomes, NAEYC Program Standards, DCFS Licensing Rules, and DFSS Chicago Early Learning Standards.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Helping ensure the classroom environment is safe, clean, and all activities are age-appropriate and engaging
Provide active supervision, supervision which requires focused attention and intentional observation of children at all times. Staff position themselves so that they can observe all the children: watching, counting, and listening at all times
Support children’s cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development by actively playing with them, speaking with them, and modeling
Assist Teacher in creating weekly activity plans using the model of emergent curriculum and the Creative Curriculum lesson planning tool
Keep records on attendance, development, meals, health, and other as defined by funders
Facilitate family-style meals and model healthy eating habits
Follow proper health and hygiene protocols including emergency drills, diapering, toilet training, toothbrushing, and other daily care and health routines
Keep the classroom space clean and sanitized
Document children’s development using Teaching Strategies Gold and documentation panels.
Maintain consistent, daily, and reciprocal communication with families.
Support Teacher in facilitating 2 home visits and two parent-staff conferences per year.
Compete a minimum of 15 professional development hours a year and record them in the Illinois Gateways to Opportunity Registry.
Complete training in first aid/CPR, food handling, and mandated reporting.
Participate in recruitment events.
Maintain a high level of professionalism.

Qualifications (Skills/Knowledge/Abilities):
Associates degree in Early Childhood/Infant Toddler Care preferred
Possess at least 15 Early Childhood college credits
Must have an Illinois Gateways Infant-Toddler Credential Level 4, or obtain one by 2024
Must provide proof of Covid19 vaccination, or complete medical, or religious exemption documenation provided by request from our HR department.
Must be able to connect with children, families, and coworkers
Must be able to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment
Interest, or experience with Reggio Emilia and emergent curriculum preferred
Must be able to lift a 40 lb child and actively keep up with children's movements
Basic experience, and knowledge of computer usage, including email and Microsoft Office
Excellent communication skills and office organization
